Bengaluru has given me studies, work and livelehood which I’m ever grateful, you might ask me why is the title about Mysuru well if bengaluru is the soul of my life mysuru always has my heart in there :).
Let’s dig into what makes mysuru such a special place and what it looks like spend a day out there in the most relaxing way yet ‘Explore like true local‘, well is it the weather, is it the culture,is it the people or is it the city itself? Well the most simple way to put is it’s a perfect mixture like a dosae culminated with some saagu ,smeared with some chutney and with some butter on top which basically reminds me of our first stop…..the famous Mysuru mylari dosae. Even though it doesn’t taste as it used to,a person visiting as an outsider would have a different experience with that saagu in the middle.

This would be a perfect way to start of the day at Mysuru as we have some amazing dosae and savior yourself with some great coffee at Giri’s coffee shop right next to Mylari as our tummy is full it’s time to go visit the house of the one’s who made this city that is the Amba Vilas aka the Mysuru palace while as you go through the palace inside you will be awestruck to think how it was built over 100 years back ,still seems so vintage yet so modern and well curated its is. To give an example of how grateful people of mysuru are ,there are many people who keep the photos of the previous maharajas in the pooja room along with Gods and to be honest there is no real surprise in this due to the amount of work that has been done and put forth for the people by them, from the historical pieces of art by the famous Ravi verma to the Golden howdah the palace offers a look into the depths of our history the wodeyars a patronage of the Vijayanagara empire have been existing from 1400. Hence, the palace brings an amazing culture of transition and a mixture of many different cultures co-existing in a single city.

After some great history you can visit one of the iconic mysurean restaurants that is Hotel siddartha ,I would definitely vouch this hotel for lunch here as you finish your lunch , take a stroll in the kukkrahalli lake and try to burn some calories after that delicious meal and watch a lot birds which are resident and migratory (Dec to Feb season) , a day in mysuru isn’t completed without a visit to our beloved ‘ಬೆಟ್ಟ’ or also known as Chammundi hills which being one the Shakthieepetas of India Chammundeshwari the diety godess of the mysore kingdom has always been and shall always have a special place in the heart of all mysureans as Sadhuguru has mentioned in one of his interviews ” Be it sad, happy, angry, confused , facing hard times there is one solution that is Betta”, also the famous Golden Howdah or ‘Ambari’ carried by an elephant on the Jumbo savari day is also goddess chammundi, coming back to our betta enjoy the sunset with your friends, family, close ones or alone in solitude.

As it the sun goes down some mouth watering stalls rise up a typical way to end your day is by tasting the local culinary, one of the first person to start dry gobi in mysuru is the Usman Dry gobi center on a honest note the taste is not the same as before just like in life things and people change over time but what makes them special is the discipline, consistency and the absolute courage to keep going for such a long period by maintaining the Customer relationship, taste and quality. But more than Usman bhai’s gobi it’s the soft idly and that Vangibath next to it that makes me drool .Vangibath( is a tangy and spiced South Indian rice dish made with eggplant, tamarind, and an aromatic spice blend) a perfect day to end your day would be with a dessert, but before that if you visit on the weekend you can visit the palace again to look at colorful palace lightings as you enjoy your time you can visit the Dolphins bakes ‘n’ ice creams and have a unique experience of sitting in double decker bus while you enjoy the breeze and savior the dessert or ice cream of your choice.
